Erfurt

In 1935 a military airbase was opened in Erfurt-Bindersleben. After World War II it was a military airport used by the Soviet Union. In 1956 the airport was given to the "Deutsche Lufthansa der DDR", the later "Interflug" since 1963. The first regular flight destinations where Berlin-Schönefeld, Dresden, Heringsdorf and Barth. They wheres suspended in 1982 due to the rising oil-price. Because of that reason the airport saw just about 10.000 passengers per year. Since the german runion in 1990 regular flights started again, first to Berlin-Tempelhof and Frankfurt/Main.

In the years since 1990 a new terminal (Terminal B), a new control tower and new hangars and freight terminals where builded. The airport got a longer runway, a new taxiway and new apron-surface.
